So much progress has been made since these were taken but I will show you just ‘cuz I haven’t taken new ones yet!

This is NOT the final color of the exterior. It has since been painted and I can’t wait to show you what it looks like now.

Taken before winter set in 🙂

The latter two images are of the back of the house and back side corner, respectively. Love that wood there.

Enjoy!

The other day I showed my dad this blog and told him how many views we’d gotten, and that there’d been a ton of ‘likes’, too! He wanted to see the comments…. and I had to tell him there aren’t any!

😉

Sit down and stay awhile!

Give me something new to say next time, please! I would love to tell him that we’d gotten some comments on how great the house is progressing. And if you’d like to share your own home improvement project with us, that would be awesome!!

In great gratitude,

So, our yard could probably be designated as a wildlife habitat, and natural ecosystem. A few years ago, we even had a toad living in it! Apparently that’s a good and fairly certain sign of a healthy ecosystem. However, the humans are important, too. The yard just isn’t working for us in some ways that’d we’d like it to.

I would love to add a bench or wooden swing (like a porch swing), and put it near a really good tree like a red maple or magnolia.

If you look at the large bright green mass slightly to the right of the little house (this is an OLD picture!) you are seeing a veritable thicket. It has recently become outlined in tall itchy weeds, which we have to brush past if walking to the compost pile. We’ve been focused on other things; aside from general life stuff, there’s the little house to work on, and that has been pretty consuming.

Anyway, today I spent an hour with a pitchfork and shovel and was able to clear a 4’x4′ section of those weeds (some Virginia creeper in there! good thing I got that out) and fill an industrial size trash bin. Needless to say, I am tired and well-deserving of rest (which all of us deserve anyway, regardless of how much we accomplish!!).

Oh, and there are new pictures coming soon! (As soon as I take them!) We’ve made a ton of progress on trim and siding!

Dad has been working really hard and the results are beautiful!

Dad says ‘Well, it does look a little different!’ “Like” or comment on this post if you agree!!

I believe there are two camps when it comes to cleaning and clearing.

There’s the “I’m only going to clean for 15 minutes” idea which works for some, as it focuses the attention and releases one from attachment to the result or expectation of perfection.

And there is the “I will put away (or get rid of) 10 things” camp which works best for me, because it provides the same blessings mentioned above as well as a simple and definite goal. I don’t have to break my neck trying to vacuum the whole house in 15 minutes or ‘have the place spotless’ by the end of my cleaning. I have the satisfaction of knowing I removed 10 things that had been standing in the way (and it doesn’t matter which ten) and am 10 new open spaces closer to my goal of cleanliness.

Serenity can be attained regardless of your surroundings, as it is entirely reliant upon one’s attitude and willingness to be happy.

Blessings and peace,

~*Serenity Woman!

Non-little house post today, for that project has been on hold for a while. Today’s feature is an ongoing project to organize, clean, and aesthetically-revolutionize my own chamber.

This is what things looked like about a year ago in my room….

Wow!! Let’s take a visit down memory lane, shall we?

Here is my intention for the space:

I’d like to create a peaceful space where Yoga can be practiced. I’d like it to be a beautiful non-distracting space with light, air, and cleanliness. This will be a space for serenity. So mote it be.

And here is the transformation process, photo by photo, beginning January 2, 2012.

Now this is far from complete, but see the transformation? See the beautiful change from dark to light? I am loving it and feeling more peaceful every time I look at it.

So I have more pictures! Yay!

They aren’t exactly new, but we’ve been taking a break since it began snowing, so these are still the latest progress. Enjoy them!

Now that the headers are fully built and nailed in, the spaces for the new windows have been sawed-out.

See how much light there will be?

So Dad and I have been putting in headers on the Little House. Headers are what the new windows will hang from. Here are some photos.

The outside view: you can see that much has been done.

Making more progress, headers on the wall of windows overlooking ‘the pit’.

And a little-seen view of the house; this corner used to be filled with stuff! (currently that stuff is piled in a different corner)

The outside corner; some of the wood you see here will be removed to make space for the windows.

Ta-da! Well how did you like that?

Tranquility- Under Construction.

~*Serenity Woman!

So, while most people were annoyed with the whole ‘government furlough’ thing I was focused on the silver living of the clouds…

My dad has been working on the little house with his time-off from work! Fantastic, no?

Looking for windows, we investigated a local salvaged-items store and found it rather pricey. As the French might say, trop chere! Who knew you could make that much money selling other people’s trash?

Since then, dad has been removing and replacing rotten boards of the little house. He has corroborated my theory that there is termite damage (though my opinion has become that the damage is perhaps too extensive to be worth fixing the house…. I didn’t want to say so, but that is my honest opinion). He plans to have a termite specialist take care of it in the spring. Wish us luck!

Wait a minute…. Spring?!?! Looks like it’s time for me to practice patience and acceptance.

Meanwhile, back to work they go. Blessings government employees, have a good week!
